Your resting metabolic rate (RMR) is the number of calories your body burns each day while at rest.

Since your RMR accounts for approximately 75% of your daily calorie needs, knowing your actual RMR is very useful in determining your overall daily caloric needs.

Accurately determining how many calories you need each day enables the creation of a personalized weight management, nutrition and fitness program.

As pictured above, the resting metabolic rate (RMR) is measured using the BodyGem® metabolism measurement device by HealtheTech™.

While breathing only through the mouth and into the Body Gem device through a single-use mouthpiece, a client sits quietly for about ten minutes to complete the measurement. The BodyGem® device then reports the RMR.

Although the actual RMR measurement takes only about ten minutes, clients will be required to sit and relax for a minimum of 10 minutes prior to beginning the measurement.

For an accurate result, clients cannot eat or drink (water is OK), exercise or consume caffeine (e.g. coffee, tea, soda, chocolate, etc.) or other stimulants for at least 4 hours prior to the measurement, and must refrain from nicotine for one hour prior to the measurement.

So, PLEASE REFRAIN from eating, drinking, exercising or consuming caffeine or stimulants at least 4 hours before and smoking at least 1 hour before measurements will be taken.
