To affirm means "to make firm". Affirmations are statements of positive intent. They are phrases that you speak within your own mind, say aloud (often while looking in a mirror) or write with the feeling that they are already done. Affirmations enable you to align rapidly with your heart's desire.Since beliefs are simply thoughts that you think over and over again, the use of affirmations allow you to create the beliefs that you choose to hold rather than those that you have adopted over the course of your life.
Useful Guidelines for Creating Great Affirmations
1. Choose affirmations that are more than 50% believable and feel good to you now.
Remember, all physical/material things are preceded by thought. Choose thoughts that are more than 50% believable to you and feel good now. Just as the Paradise Mind and Body hypnosis recordings we offer provide you with ever expansive suggestions, it is useful to start simply and create more expansive affirmations as you come into greater alignment.
Examples-
"I love the idea of being prosperous." (might be a better start than "I am wealthy and prosperous now.")
"Each day, I get better and better and better." (might be a better start than "I am whole, perfect and complete now.")
2. Create affirmations in the affirmative.
Your inner mind does not know words like don't, not or never. Choose phrases that are positive and direct.
Examples-
"I eat healthy and nutritious foods." (rather than "I am not going to eat donuts anymore.")
"I treat myself with love and respect." (rather than "I no longer criticize myself.")
3. Create affirmations in the present tense.
Your inner mind is quite literal and will interpret words like "I will..." as something that will occur in the future. As a result, it will always hold that desire out in the future.
Example-
"I am now healthy, whole and complete." (rather than "I will be healthy, whole and complete.")
Louise L. Hay is the author of a number of books and a true expert on the creation and use of affirmations. I highly recommend her books entitled Heal Your Body and You Can heal Your Life. They are excellent sources of information about affirmations and supply many wonderful examples to use.
